Serdang, February 5 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has successfully commercialised Futuristic Probiotic health supplement technology, which is a substitute for probiotic live cells through the company My Myracle Sdn. Bhd
This commercialization collaboration is the result of the sale of the ownership rights of two UPM patents, Tumour Cytotoxic Agent and Methods Thereof (MY-158393-A) and Probiotic Composition for Nutraceutical Product (MY-162183-A) to the company My Myracle Sdn Bhd. with a value of RM200,000.
According to the head of the research group, Prof. Dr. Foo Hooi Ling from UPM's Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Futuristic Probiotics is a natural mixed metabolite material produced through fermentation technology controlled by probiotic living cells isolated from local Malaysian foods that can provide consistent gut health benefits.
"Probiotic metabolites are known as Postbiotics and they provide consistent health benefits compared to the beneficial effects of probiotic living cell health which is often unstable, inconsistent, high production costs and short shelf life," he added.
Managing Director of My Myracle Sdn Bhd, En. Chin Kok Tian said, through this technology, the company has successfully produced several Postbiotic products that have obtained Halal certification, Industrial Responsibility Safe Food (MeSTI), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Bionexus status and the products are successfully registered in the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division (NPRA), Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
In addition, as a result of this close collaboration, UPM researchers and My Myracle Sdn Bhd managed to build complete facilities such as a bioreactor system and clean room at the postbiotic manufacturing plant operating in Selangor.
"My Myracle Sdn Bhd has allocated RM6 million to develop a fermentation plant that has successfully increased the production of Postbiotic products to 3000 litres," he added.
Postbiotic products work to restore, improve and maintain the balance of the gut microbiota by supporting the growth of existing probiotic good bacteria in the gut and suppressing the growth of bad bacteria or pathogens in the human gut.
The balance of the gut microbiota is especially important for a healthy gut condition for each individual. Intestinal health is very important and closely related and promotes overall body health.
